IPL 2021 likely to start from 11 April, Final on 6 June: Reports

The BCCI has been talking about conducting the IPL 2021 during the mid-year but there was no formal announcement. However, it seems we finally know the starting date of the Indian Premier League 2021 as BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has told an English daily that BCCI has kept 11 April as the tentative date to start the IPL 2021. He also noted that BCCI is keen to organize the tournament in India, unlike last year when IPL was organized in UAE. In 2020, Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma won the IPL.

April 11 the tentative date for IPL 2021: Dhumal

Dhumal said that the final decision regarding the IPL schedule will be taken by IPL GC but 11th April is the tentative date to start IPL 2021. He explained that the series against England finishes in March and players will get a good break with the 11th April start for IPL.

The BCCI official also made it clear that the board wants to host the popular tournament in India. He said that they are working on having the IPL in India and are hopeful that they would be able to organize it.

He made it clear that they are not even thinking of a back up at this point in time, they want to do it here. Dhumal stated that India is probably safer than UAE at this point. Hopefully, the situation remains stable and keep improving and we will have IPL here.

IPL auction 2021 to be held on 18 February 

Recently, the BCCI also made it clear that the IPL auction 2021 will be held on 18 Februray. And importantly it will be a mini-auction. The teams are allowed to retain as many players as they want and will also have a chance to buy more players in the auction depending on their remaining purse.
