West Indies vs South Africa: West Indies have a very busy cricketing calendar ahead as they are scheduled to host South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. With their major focus on the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to be held later this year, Cricket West Indies (CWI) have named a full strength 18-member provisional squad for trio of T20I assignments against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. The veteran likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo and Lendl Simmons are back in the scheme of things before the T20 World Cup.

Windies have continued with Kieron Pollard as the skipper while Nicholas Pooran has been named the vice-captain. Big-hitting all-rounder Andre Russell who last featured in the national side in March 2020 has made a comeback alongside Shimron Hetmyer. The trio of Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas and Hayden Walsh Jr. have also returned in the provisional 18-man squad. The veteran likes of Chris Gayle, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Bravo have retained their spots after making a comeback during the previous series against Sri Lanka.

On the other hand, South Africa have also announced their Test and T20I squads for the Windies tour. Cricket South Africa (CSA) have named Dean Elgar as the new Test captain who will be taking over the reigns from Quinton de Kock. South Africa’s Test squad includes the likes of Marco Jansen, Kyle Verreynne Keegan Petersen, Saral Erwee and Lizaad Williams. However, in the T20I squad, AB de Villiers who was touted to make a comeback, CSA have finally cleared the air saying that the veteran South African batsman will not be coming out of retirement and the decision remains final. Faf du Plessis, Chris Morris and Imran Tahir have also not been named in the T20I squad for the West Indies tour.

West Indies vs South Africa Schedule

West Indies are scheduled to host South Africa for 2 Tests and five T20Is starting with the 1st Test from June 10 in St Lucia. The five-match T20I series will begin with the 1st T20I on June 26 while the tour ends on 3rd July. All the five T20I matches will be played at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada.
