Former Indian player Harbhajan Singh has made the headlines but for unhealthy reasons this time. Bhajji’s act of paying homage to Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and others who were killed inside the Golden Temple during Operation Blue Star has invited him backlash, criticisms and tagged him a terrorist sympathiser.

After being trolled immensely on social media for attributing a terrorist as a martyr on his death anniversary, Harbhajan Singh came with a public apology for putting across the wrong sentiments.

Harbhajan Singh’s Instagram story

On June 6, the 37th anniversary of Operation Bluestar, the bowling great posted an Instagram story in support of Bhindranwale. The story had a picture with some written text in Punjabi that explicitly glorified Bhindranwale as a ‘martyr’ and offered him ‘pranam’.

A decode of the Punjabi language written in the story reads “Live with pride, die for the religion”.

Netizens went berserk condemning Bhajji’s act

As the Indian cricketer poured his heart out clearly mentioning “Heartfelt tribute to those martyred in Operation inside Shri Harmandir Sahib on June 1- June 6, 1984″ in his story, the enraged people threw a volley of criticisms on the veteran player.

Harbhajan Singh issues a public apology

Having sympathized with the terrorists and realizing his depleting public image who critiqued him furiously, Bhajji came with an apology for his actions.

However, the issue is still blazing and the public is bashing the Indian cricketer for his act.

As the unpleasant remarks have come from a reputed cricketer who played for India for a decade and a half, the infuriated people want the apex cricket body- The Board of Control for Cricket in India to take a stand on the same.

In his cricketing career, he played 103 Tests, 236 ODI’s and 28 T20’s for Team India. Across all formats, the former off-spinner scalped a total of 711 wickets in his International career.

Harbhajan Singh, however, plays the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
