During the India vs Pakistan clash on Wednesday, Hardik Pandya suffered an acute lower back injury. After bowling the fifth ball of the 18th over, Pandya held his back and had to lay down on the field. Medical staff was called out and the bowler had to be stretchered off the field. Pandya wasn’t even able to stand up on his feet.
As Pandya recovers he has been ruled out of the tournament. With his spot on the team left open, it’s been reported that his replacement is likely to be Rajasthan pacer Deepak Chahar. The 26-year-old, right-arm pacer was also part of the Indian T20I squad against England. Most recently he was part of the India A in the quadrangular series.
Being added to team India’s Asia Cup squad will make Rajasthan miss out on a good bowler as they participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018. Chahar grabbed the spotlight when he took 10 wickets playing for the Chennai Super Kings during the IPL (Indian Premier League) in 2018.
When added to the India A squad during the tri-series in England he was able to get 10 wickets in just four games. Due to an injury that left Jasprit Bumrah out of the game against Ireland, Chahar was given the opportunity and his name was added to the T20I side for the England series.

With Pandya out, Chahar is reported to land in Dubai on Thursday and will be given his debut ODI cap. His first ODI match with India will be against Bangladesh on September 21st. After that India will face Pakistan on September 23rd and Afghanistan on September 25th.
Even after Pandya’s injury, India still won the match by 8 wickets against Pakistan. The score wasn’t very high, just 163 which India was able to make quick, in just 29 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was given the Man of the Match title for his spell of 7-1-15-3.
