World Test Championship Final – It was an empathic victory for Sri Lanka on Thursday as they swapped Pakistan by 246 runs to level the two-match Test series at 1-1. The win for Sri Lanka had bearings on the current scenario of the World Test Championship (WTC) as Sri Lanka move third while Pakistan drop to fifth. Meanwhile South Africa and Australia occupy the top two spots.

Who will play World Test Championship Final?

India (Currently on 58.08 % win points)

India still have six matches left in the WTC current cycle and will attend 68.05 percent win rating points if they win all those games. India play four matches against Australia and two against Bangladesh and any slip-up could end up India finish outside top two. Currently both South Africa and Australia are above India with more than 70 percent win rating points. India will have to win maximum number of their matches including head-to-head against Australia.

Pakistan (Currently on 51.85 % win points)

Pakistan with the defeat on Thursday have dented their chance to qualify for the WTC final. There are five matches still remaining in the current WTC cycle for Pakistan, three against England and two against New Zealand. If they fail to win any of their five matches they will end with less than 68 percent win rating points and will therefore have to depend on other teams and their results.

Australia (Currently on 70.00 % win points)

The Aussies still have nine matches to play in the current cycle of the WTC, and seven of those are against India and South Africa that are the direct opponents for a place in the top two. Much will depend on the head-to-head matches as they will either help Australia maintain their 70 percent win points or help lose their grip. Moreover, victories against South Africa and West Indies won’t make any favour unless they get something on Indian soil.

South Africa (Currently on 71.43 % win points)

The Proteas sit top of the pile at the moment, but will need to negotiate a tough path to maintain their spot. South Africa play three Tests against Australia and England on their own patch. They will have West Indies at home as well, but again only better head-to-head results could see them keep their top place. Even they win against the West Indies in both the matches, they will need something form the England and Australia series as they will need more than 60 percent win rating points.
