Jasprit Bumrah

The chief Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has suffered an injury ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia. Bumrah, one of the best pacers in the cricketing world, is likely to miss the biggest event of the year. He was not selected in the Indian playing XI yesterday (Wednesday, September 28), in the first T20 International against South Africa, apparently, due to the same reasons.

JASPRIT BUMRAH OUT OF INDIA SQUAD T20 WORLD CUP? HERE’S THE UPDATE

The righty pacer was complaining about a niggle in the back earlier, during a practice session of the Indian team on Tuesday (September 27). And following the update, he missed the first T20I against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram; this was informed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) minutes before the toss.  Furthermore, according to the sources, it turned out to be a stress fracture.

If the sources are to be believed, no surgery will be done for the injury, but the pacer will need a period of four to six months for the complete recovery. Moreover, Bumrah is set to miss the upcoming T20 World Cup, starting from October 16.

Bumrah had also missed the 2022 T20 Asia Cup earlier due to a back injury and was training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, before playing a couple of T20Is against Australia.

A senior BCCI official, on the conditions of anonymity, told the PTI, a news agency, “Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months.”

More to the point, there has been no official announcement made about Bumrah’s availability for the World Cup, by the BCCI.

REPLACEMENT FOR JASPRIT BUMRAH – SHAMI OR CHAHAR?

Besides, if not Bumrah, India will now have to go for either Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar, who are the standby players in the Indian squad. Chahar bowled exceptionally well against South Africa, on Wednesday, but the choice remains up to the management.

As the concerns are raised in the death overs, Bumrah’s absence is certainly a huge blow for the Indian side, deeming how valuable he is during this sort of contest.
