Gujarat Titans go head-to-head against Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 26th May, Friday at 7:30 PM IST.
Gujarat Titans slipped in the all-important Qualifier 1 against the belligerent Chennai Super Kings. Being the table topper, one expected to steamroll Super Kings but that didn’t quite happen. MS Dhoni once again proves why he is the best captain in all the IPL seasons. Titans winning the toss chose to field first, Titans made sure it wasn’t all easygoing for Chennai and ended up restricting them to 172, which was a gettable total on that track.
However, it was the batting that cost them the game, apart from Shubman Gill, no one knew what was happening on that track, and Titans one by one kept losing wickets. Rashid Khan did try to repeat what he did against Mumbai in the league stages but it was just too much against a team that is led by MS Dhoni and eventually succumbing to a 15-run defeat. Given that they were at the top of the table, they have another shot at the finals but it was against the red-hot Mumbai Indians.
Many wrote off Mumbai Indians at the start of the season, they lost way too many games initially but covered it up with brilliant performances later on to catch up. Mumbai were struggling at one stage at the bottom of the table but they showed once again, why they are one of the top teams in the IPL. Against Lucknow Super Giants, the odds were against them. Mumbai after choosing to bat first, put up a brilliant total on the board, thanks to Cameron Green’s 41 and Suryakumar Yadav’s quick-fire 33 off 20.
Nehal Wadhera puts the finishing touches to the innings. It was the bowling that was the talk of the town in the end, Mumbai rattled Lucknow who was doing pretty well up until the 9th over. Akash Madhwal showed what he’s made of and he scalped his maiden fifer as he finished with astonishing figures of 5-5 and was the player of the tournament.
With that win, Mumbai edge closer to the finals and they have Gujarat Titans in their way. With the kind of momentum they are carrying, the only team that can stop Mumbai are Chennai who are in the finals. We have a humdinger of a contest set up in this Qualifier 2.

The pitch in Narendra Modi Stadium is a belter for the batters. The Pacers don’t have much to do on this surface. However, the spinners will come into play at some stage of the game and the ball gets slower and lower a bit as well. With the fast outfield, the batters will enjoy their powerplay. Teams winning the toss will bowl first. The average first innings score on this track is 160.
The wicket at Narendra Modi Stadium throughout the tournament has shown that it’s not batting heavy, if the batters invest their time in the middle, they have plenty of runs. Even in the second innings, they need to tread with caution. All 17 wickets fell for pacers in the last game.
