LSG vs MI IPL 2023 Who won today’s IPL Match?

In the Eliminator of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023), the Mumbai Indians (MI) have managed to register a pretty convincing 81-run victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) being hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With this superlative win, the five-time champions have progressed to the Qualifier 2 where MI will be facing defending champions, Gujarat Titans on 26 May, 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On the other hand, LSG have been eliminated from IPL 2023.

Who won Man of the Match in today’s IPL match?

For the Mumbai Indians, Cameron Green and Nehal Wadhera batted really well to post a fighting total on the scoreboard. However, it was right-arm pacer Akash Madhwal who registered remarkable figures of 5 for 5 from his 3.3 overs and most importantly, he broke the backbone of LSG by taking two wickets off successive deliveries in the 10th over which eventually proved to be the difference. Thus, Madhwal was presented the Man of the Match award in today’s LSG vs MI match.

After opting to bat first, the Mumbai Indians have posted a challenging score of 182 for 8 in their quota of 20 overs. MI got off to a fine start at the top as the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 30 runs in just 3.2 overs. Cameron Green continued his amazing form with another crucial knock of 41 runs off only 23 balls while Suryakumar Yadav failed to convert his start of 33 runs. However, while coming as an Impact Player, Nehal Wadhera played an exciting cameo of 23 runs off only 12 balls to provide a solid finish. For the Lucknow Super Giants, Naveen-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers having taken four vital wickets while Yash Thakur also finished with three scalps.

During the tricky run-chase, LSG got off to a disappointing starting losing the wickets of both their openers, Kyle Mayers and Prerak Mankad inside the first four overs with 23 runs on the scoreboard. Marcus Stoinis and skipper Krunal Pandya then stitched a partnership of 46 runs before the latter was dismissed by Piyush Chawla. However, Akash Madhwal came up with a match-turning over for MI where he dismissed both Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran off successive deliveries. Stoinis too lost his wicket through a big runout mixup after scoring 40 runs off 27 deliveries. From 69 for 2, LSG eventually got bowled out for a paltry total of 101 runs in 16.3 overs. For MI, Madhwal ended up taking a sensational five-wicket haul while conceding just 5 runs from his 3.3 overs.
