The visiting Indian team are not playing talented batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first of the three ODI matches against West Indies taking place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. India will definitely be feeling very much high on confidence after their 1-0 Test series victory over West Indies. India also recently defeated both Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home during their previous ODI series.
During the toss, it was noted that Ruturaj Gaikwad misses out from the India playing 11 for the IND vs WI 1st ODI match. India have gone ahead with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan at the top. Interestingly, Gaikwad has played just a single ODI match so far where he scored 19 runs against South Africa in 2022. However, he had a sensational run during the previous edition of the Vijay Hazare ODI Trophy that earned him a place in the national squad. It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old will get an opportunity in the remaining two ODI matches against West Indies or not.
“We are gonna field first, no particular reason. We are gonna try a few different things. We want to head into the World Cup with a clear mindset. For us, the results are also important. At times, we are going to try out different players but we don’t want to compromise on our results. All cricketers around the world who are playing all formats need to adapt well. Hopefully, we can get what we want here. We have got four seamers and two spinners,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
