Blow to ENG: Star all-rounder doubtful for 4th ODI vs Windies

By Chaitanya Laxman

England has received a big blow in ongoing ODI series against Windies as all-rounder Ben Stokes is suffering from an injury and hence is doubtful for the fourth ODI. Stokes had to miss the third ODI as he injured his ankle during training.

England hopeful that Stokes returns for fourth ODI

England coach Trevor Bayliss gave an update on Stokes’ condition. He said that the all-rounder should be fine in two days’ time and he would be surprised if Stokes is not right for Wednesday.

He noted that the all-rounder could have batted and fielded in the third game. Bayliss noted that they took a conservative approach in the third ODI as Stokes told them that he could feel his ankle a little bit warming up to bowl and the team management decided not to chance making it worse.

Byliss felt that the all-rounder was probably not as confident as he has seen him before when they asked him was he right to play. So he feels straight away it was an easy decision and a learning process for him about how he can look after his body a little better.

More than capable of winning without Stokes: England coach

The England coach explained that Stokes is important to the squad, as they have shown in the past they have gone into one-day tournaments with only five bowlers. They did in Australia 12 months ago and were able to win. He accepted that it is not perfect for them but with the players they have got in the team and the squad they are more than capable of winning without him.
