DC vs SRH: Can Delhi stop Hyderabad’s run-machine and their batting collapse?

By Chaitanya Laxman

Three matches and three hundred run plus partnerships. The run-making by SRH’s top-order has been so magnum that it has hided Bhuvi’s failure in death overs to some extent.  And going forward, this will be Hyderabad’s USP.

Meanwhile Delhi Capitals are finding newer ways of losing a match after almost winning it. The team management has to find an answer to it before it becomes a habit for this young team.

Venue:

In two matches played at this ground in IPL 2019, teams have found it easier to chase a target. The batsmen have the advantage and big runs can be expected as both sides carry batting heavyweights.

Form guide:

Hyderabad’s opening pair has been the best in the tournament by some distance so far and their spin department has displayed its class. The form of Yusuf Pathan and the pacers is a worry for the team.

The top order for Delhi too looks fine and Ingram and Pant have provided plenty of punch in the middle order. Despite that the franchise has witnessed two horrific collapses on the trot and this will be playing in their minds on Thursday.

Key numbers:

  • Hyderabad has good memories of playing at the Firoz Shah Kotla ground. The team has played seven games here and has won five of them.

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t picked any wicket in IPL season 12 and has conceded 10.63 runs per over. And he doesn’t like bowling against Delhi historically. He has only five wickets in 12 IPL games against Delhi.

Players in focus:

The lucky charm for Hyderabad, Mohammad Nabi can be a key factor against the left-hand batsmen Colin Ingram and Rishabh Pant. SRH hasn’t lost a match whenever Nabi has featured in the team and he can be used anywhere during the innings as his economy is just 6.10 in middle overs and 5.30 during Powerplays.

Jonny Bairstow is in fine form in Indian Premier League but Delhi may have covered him. The SRH opener has been dismissed by a leggie in all three innings so far and averages just a meager 23 against them in T20s since 2015. Hello Sandeep Lamichhane!
