Dhoni’s new achievement surpasses Sehwag’s record

A new achievement

Friday’s Asia Cup final against Bangladesh was a monumental match for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. One of the achievements in the match was that he surpassed Virender Sehwag. This achievement was on the list of the Indian batsmen with the highest runs in ODIs against Bangladesh.

The match was held at the Dubai International Stadium. Before the match, Dhoni had 498 runs against Bangladesh and simply needed 6 more runs to beat Sehwag.

The record

Sehwag had scored 503 runs against Bangladesh in just 12 ODI matches. This match was Dhoni’s 20th ODI match against Bangladesh. However, both Dhoni and Sehwag were beaten by Virat Kohli, who has 654 runs in 11 ODIs against Bangladesh. Virat has a whopping average of 81.75.

Dhoni ranks 12th on the list featuring the highest run scorers in ODI history. Tendulkar tops the list with 18426 runs, an average of 44.83, 96 fifties and 49 centuries in his 463-match long career.  Following him at the second position, is Sri Lankan legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara with 14234 runs.

Other achievements

During the recent ODI series against England, Dhoni also achieved the magnanimous feat of 10,000 ODI runs. With this, Dhoni became part of an elusive club of elite Indan cricketers featuring the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid.

Dhoni, however, is the only captain in the history of cricket all over the world to win all three ICC trophies- World T20 in 2007, World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013.
