New Zealand reveals their squad for 2018 Women’s World T20

The focus

The ICC Women’s World T20 is going to be held in the Caribbean this November. On Tuesday, the coach of team New Zealand, Haidee Tiffen confirmed the team for the World T20 and also the three-match T20I series against Australia starting from September 29th. The Australia series will see Amy Satterthwaite captain the squad after Suzie Bates gave up captaincy last month.

The squad for the Australia tour will have 13 members and includes 5 spinners including Satterthwaite, Maddy Green, Jess Watkins, Leigh Kasperek, all of whom are off-spinners, while Amelia Kerr represents leg-spin. Anna Peterson will be added to the World T20 squad. The squad seems to be focused on spin players.

The idea

This may seem to be perfect because the surfaces of the Caribbean are known to yield plenty of turns. However, spin is not the only area of competence for this team. The pace department includes the likes of Hayley Jensen, Lea Tahuhu, Kate Ebrahim, Sophie Devine, Hannah Rowe, and Holly Huddleston. The batting department is led under the charge of Satterthwaite, Bates, and Devine.

All in all, the coach said she was rather pleased with the preparation for the World event. She said that at camp, there was a more intimate chance to get to know the players. The practice matches helped to see how players reacted under pressure.
