England’s overnight opening duo of Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed were seen wearing black armbands on Day 2 of the third Test against India. It is understood that the England players are wearing black armbands to honour the demise of former English captain Ted Dexter.

Former England skipper Ted Dexter has amassed a total of 4502 runs in Test cricket. He served as both Chairman of Selectors and Chair of the MCC and was also inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame earlier this year.

While talking about the Test match happened so far at the Headingley in Leeds, England’s James Anderson opened the floodgates by removing the trio of KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in just the first hour of play. There was no coming back for the visitors after that early collapse as none of their batters got settled at the crease except Rohit Sharma who too lost his wicket to the pull shot. India got bowled out for just 78 runs in the first innings. For England, Anderson and Overton finished with three wickets each. Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson also picked two wickets apiece.

In reply, England openers, Burns and Hameed have got their team off to an incredible start with a sublime partnership of 135 runs for the first wicket. Burns played a brilliant knock of 61 runs before getting dismissed by Mohammed Shami on Day 2. England currently have a lead of 75 runs with Hameed and Dawid Malan unbeaten at the crease.
