The Virat Kohli-led team have now taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series. Incidentally, head coach Ravi Shastri contracted the coronavirus following a book launch event organised in the team hotel in London last week. He is currently isolation alongside three members of the support staff, Nitin Patel, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar, who were identified as close contacts. All the four members will now miss the 5th Test match as well. The book launch event was attended by all the Indian cricketers present in England and their test results have come negative. However, the entire Indian contingent didn’t seek any official approval from BCCI to attend this event and the officials are unhappy with this fact.

The BCCI are currently in talks with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to ensure that the upcoming fifth and final ENG vs IND Test match scheduled to start from 10 September, is organised smoothly. The Indian selectors are also scheduled to have a meeting on Wednesday (8 September) to pick the national squad for the ICC T20 World Cup and in all possibility, the above stated matter will be discussed there.

“There is a selection meeting for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. Maybe the matter will be raised there,” the official added.

“This incident is all the more unsettling because BCCI secretary Jay Shah had written to every team member before the series, asking them to be cautious and refrain from attending crowded events. The action of the team hasn’t gone down well with the board,” the official concluded.
