Australian skipper Aaron Finch has revealed that he will open the innings in the first ODI against India on Saturday while wicket-keeper Alex Carey will feature in the playing XI. At the same time, left-hand batsman Shaun Marsh will miss the game.

Marsh to miss first ODI, Carey to keep wickets

Shaun Marsh stayed in Australia to be present for the birth of his second child and has arrived late in India. At the same time the team management is concerned about his hamstring and hence it is decided to rule him out of the first ODI.

The left-hand batsman will be available for the second ODI and meanwhile D’Arcy Short, who was roped in the squad as cover for Marsh will return to Australia.

At the same time Australian skipper Aaron Finch has confirmed that wicket-keeper Alex Carey will feature in the playing XI for the first game.

Finch said that Alex has done well when he has had his opportunities and he knows Carey was really disappointed missing out on the T20 games. He noted that going forward, he is probably likely to be in that middle-order, No.7 spot.

Maxwell to bat up as well

Finch also revealed that Glenn Maxwell who was outstanding in the T20I series will bat up in the batting order. Finch stated that Maxwell will get an opportunity a bit higher up the order, no doubt. He explained that Maxwell’s record in India is very good, the way he played in Australia, even in the ODIs there was some really good improvement.

So he noted that whether that’s six, whether it’s five, he is not exactly sure yet but he said that he will get an opportunity a bit higher than seven.
