Since making his debut in Test cricket, Prithvi Shaw is receiving plenty of appreciation for his batting talent from former cricket players and analysts. The latest to shower praise on the young Indian cricketer is Brian Lara who has admitted that Shaw is more powerful than him at the age of 18 years.
Lara said that when he was 18, he was not as powerful as the young Indian batsman is. He also noted that the way he was accustomed to bat was very different back in those days.
According to Lara, Prithvi strikes the ball very well and looks a very good player, very solid, somebody who has a great love and passion for the game. Lara stated that he sees in him a great appetite to learn and that is the most important thing as no matter how much talent you possess, you must keep learning. The Windies cricketer also feels that Shaw has that humbleness and he believes that he will keep improving.
Some people have compared the young Indian opener with Brian Lara. When asked about this, the Windies cricketer said that Shaw is more of a mix of Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag.
In the ODI and T20I series between India and Windies, Lara believes that the home team is the favourite to win. He feels that chances of Windies putting up a better fight in the ODI series depends on the players and the selectors.
Lara admitted that in the 50-over game it will be difficult for Windies as India were the favourites even in England. He also noted that playing India in their home conditions will be very tough. Even in T20s he feels, India are favourites, but he pointed out that Windies had a share of success as they have won two World Cups. So, he believes in the possibility of Windies winning it.
