Sri Lankan middle order batsman Kusal Perera has been ruled out from the remaining three ODIs against England due to an injury. The team management has made it clear that the middle order batsman won’t be able to recover soon and hence he will not feature in the reaming series.
The left-hand batsman suffered a hamstring injury which has pushed him out of the Sri Lanka team. He is replaced by Sadeera Samarawickrama.
Perera featured in the first two ODI’s against England and scored 30 runs in the second game.
The Sri Lankan batsman has played 82 ODIs so far and has scored 2093 runs at an average of 28.67.
The loss of Perera is a big blow for the Sri Lankan team who is already plagued by their inconsistent batting order. Perera’s exclusion will make their middle order even more vulnerable and the team management now has to somehow find a way to add strength to it.
Meanwhile England’s all-rounder Liam Dawson has been ruled out from the remaining series as well.
The opening batsman who also bowls effective leg-spin was part of the second one day international. However he strained his right leg while bowling in the match and his injury hasn’t healed yet. Hence England Cricket Board has replaced Dawson with Joe Denly who is also a part of England’s Test squad.
England and Sri Lanka are playing a five match ODI series and the visitors are currently leading it by 1-0. The first match of the series was washed out due to rain and England won the second ODI.
The third ODI between the two teams is scheduled on Wednesday, 17th October.
