Just before the final Test, Ravi Shastri’s press conference was flooded with the words like shot selection, self-belief, being aware but he, later on, turned his back from a “Complaining Shastri” to a praising Shastri. Indian Teams coach, Ravi Shastri expressed his disappointment over the performance of the team on the ongoing Test Series, but he included a fact which gave weight to his voice against criticisers.
He defended Indian team performance by stating that there is no other Indian team (in comparison with the previous group) that had often won overseas matches in last 15-20 year as the current squad had done. Team India had won two series in Sri-Lanka one in West Indies including one game against South Africa and England at their home soil, but the question is India won the last series against SENA countries in 2009 when India defeated New Zealand by 1-0 in a three-match series so when will they recreate the history?
According to Shastri, Under Kohli’s captaincy, Team India has learnt to be competitive, and India lost the close affairs which were not one-sided at all whether against South Africa or England.
“I think you have to be tough mentally. We have run teams close overseas, and we have competed. But now it’s not about competing. We have to win games from here. Now the endeavour is to understand where you made the mistakes and take it head on and try to correct it. The fact of the matter is that you had a chance and what you do with it.”
Ravi Shastri compiled the teams plan by saying,
“The scoreline says 3-1 which mean India have lost the series, what the scoreline doesn’t say that India could have been 3-1 or it could have been 2-2. And my team knows it. They would have hurt and rightly so after the last game. But this is kind of team that will not throw in the towel. It will come out there and look to compete and not be on the first flight home, and that’s exactly what we will do.”
Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag lashed out on the teams supporting staff including Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Bangar over the series lost. They said if they (Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Bangar) didn’t help the Indian batting line-up then Team India will continue to end on the sad part.
