The Hundred: Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur to miss the remainder of the competition

The new format in the game of cricket ‘The Hundred’ has surely revolutionised the entire cricketing community through its entertaining concept. However, the excitement of the unique format of the game is about to end as the tournament is approaching its business end.

Smriti Mandhana withdraws from Women’s Hundred 2021 for personal reasons

In what will be a major blow for Southern Brave, Smriti Mandhana has withdrawn from the rest of the Women’s Hundred 2021 competition for personal reasons. The left-handed batter has decided to return home early to see her family before joining the Indian squad for the Australian tour.

Mandhana has been the mainstay for Southern Brave’s batting line-up in the tournament as she featured in all seven matches that the club has played so far in the competition and has amassed 167 runs in seven innings at an average of 27.83. The southpaw registered her best score of 78 in her last match against the Welsh Fire.

Her heroics helped the Southern Brave defeat their opponents by 39 runs and cement their top position in the standings and earn a place in the finals, to be played at Lord’s.

Mandhana talked about her experience in playing the competition, calling it fantastic and enjoyable. She added that she’ll still watch her team play from India.

“It’s been a fantastic competition to be involved in and I’ve really enjoyed it. I would love to be able to stay with the team until the final but we’ve been away from home for a long time with more tours ahead. I’ll be watching the team at Lord’s and hoping they can continue our good form.”

The Hundred: Harmanpreet Kaur to miss the rest of the tournament

Manchester Originals’ batswomen Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the last two games with a quad injury, will also leave the tournament midway along with her national teammate Smriti Mandhana.

The Manchester Originals have already been eliminated from the competition and have decided against calling up a replacement for Harmanpreet Kaur. In three matches, the right-handed batter scored 104 runs at an average of 52.
