Known as Indian cricket’s most dashing opening batsman, Virender Sehwag celebrated his 40th birthday and Twitter showered him with wishes. From former and current cricketers to fans and cricket analysts, Sehwag received plenty of wishes on Twitter.
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh wished Sehwag on his birthday and while doing so, he compared the Indian opener with the great Vivan Richards. Harbhajan called Sehwag the ‘modern-day Viv Richards’ in his tweet.
The legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar who opened the innings with Sehwag in ODIs wished the right-hand batsman in a unique manner. He drew parallels between Sehwag’s run-scoring abilities and a GPS location in his tweet.
The right-hand batsman started his cricket career as a middle-order batsman but he later settled down as an opener and ended his career as one of the finest players India ever produced in all formats.
Known for his fearless approach, the opening batsman was the first Indian to score a triple hundred in Test cricket and currently is the only Indian batsman to have two triple-centuries on his name. He was also the second player to score a double-century in ODIs.
In 104 Tests, the Indian opener amassed 8586 runs at an average of 49.34. The most astonishing part of his batting was his terrific strike rate of 82.23 in Tests.
In ODIs too he maintained a strike rate of 104.33 in 251 ODIs. He scored 8273 runs in ODIs at an average of 35.05 and smashed 15 centuries as well.
