It seems that intruding ground security and meeting a cricketer in the middle of the pitch during a cricket match has become a trend these days. Some over enthusiastic fans met Indian captain Virat Kohli on two different occasions during the recent Test series against Windies and now Rohit Sharma came under their radar during the Vijay Hazare trophy match.
The incident happened during the quarter-final match between Mumbai and Bihar. During Mumbai’s innings, in the 11th over, a fan breached ground security and ran towards the pitch.
He first touched the Indian cricketer’s feet and then hugged him and kissed him. Sharma on the other hand tried his best to stay away from the over enthusiastic fan. The umpire then approached the spectator and asked him to leave the field.
The man then ran back to the stands in a jubilant manner. Interestingly, no security personal came to Rohit’s rescue or to chase away the fan.
However, this incident made no impact on Rohit as he stood unbeaten on 33 runs and guided Mumbai home in a small chase of just 7o runs.
Mumbai will now lock horns with Jharkhand in the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare trophy.
Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh looked at the lighter side of the event and used this opportunity to have some fun on social media. She shared a story on Instagram by adding a newspaper clipping of the incident and wrote a message to Indian leg spin bowler Yuzvendra Chahal, ” You and me, we both have competition now!’
