IPL on Youtube

The Indian Premier League, or IPL, is set to begin its sixteenth run in 2023, with the action getting underway on April 1. It’s one of the most popular cricket competitions on the planet right now, and, therefore, there’s a genuine desire from millions to tune in and watch. But just how can they do that, and is it possible to do so on Youtube?

The Indian Premier League is one of those sporting events that isn’t just watched in one country. It’s watched in multiple, which means there are broadcast rights that will be sold territory by territory, as it is with other sports such as football and boxing. And, before we come onto the whole Youtube thing and TV stations showing the IPL, another angle worth considering may suit others better. When betting on cricket online at popular sportsbetting operators, it is not uncommon for them to offer a live streaming service of the action, which could save some people the hassle of trying to watch elsewhere.

The IPL has, in some cases, had a relationship with broadcasters, allowing the action to be live-streamed on YouTube, and the all-important IPL Auction is broadcast on the platform to this day. However, because of how big the Indian Premier League has become, especially in the last decade, leading TV channels have wanted to obtain the rights to show the IPL via their respective services, a move which has been well greeted by cricket fans. The move by respected TV stations means the coverage is more in-depth in terms of the commentary and punditry as a result.

In India, where you could say the IPL is the biggest, Star Sports has secured the rights to show the tournament in 2023 and beyond. Star India’s agreement sees them locked in between 2023 and 2027, and countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives and Nepal will also be able to watch the action as part of the deal. For the Indian sub-continent, it’s Viacom with the rights, and then it’s different broadcasters who will be showing the IPL in other regions worldwide.

A prime example of how big the Indian Super League has become is in the UK, where cricket has always been incredibly popular. One of the leading broadcasters in the United Kingdom is, of course, Sky Sports. And not only have they purchased the rights for the IPL, but they also have a channel fittingly named Sky Sports Cricket to host it on. All sixty games will be broadcast live on the channel, and the action will also be aired on their prestigious Sky Sports Main Event.

For everywhere else, there will be a station with the rights in place to show the IPL live, especially in countries such as the US, Australia, the Middle East and beyond. And, for those who use YouTube, it’s also likely that highlights will appear there as part of these arrangements, too, so everyone can catch up on anything they missed.
