5 Possible captains for Team India after Virat Kohli

2. Shreyas Iyer

If Shreyas can put up consistent performances in future and cement his place in the limited overs squad, he could very well be in contention for being the successor of Kohli. Shreyas has proved his leadership skills by leading Delhi capitals in the IPL. With most of the next-gen Indian players already playing for Delhi capitals, leading them would prove to be an advantage for Shreyas when the talk of who will replace Kohli comes up.

A few more good seasons for DC and hopefully a maiden title for them would very well cement this argument.

1. Rohit Sharma

Rohit is one year older than Virat and he may not get a chance to lead India in near future unless Virat steps down. If Virat steps down as captain in limited overs soon it would be an ideal opportunity for Rohit as Virat has struggled to lead the team in pressure situations and the same was visible in the 2017 Champions Trophy final as well as the 2019 World Cup semi-final.

Rohit, on the other hand, knows how to keep calm in such situations as he has led India to the Hero Nidahas Trophy title and the Asia Cup. The IPL records of both the players further clears the picture as to who is the better captain.

While Royal Challengers Bangalore struggle to make it to the playoffs, Mumbai Indians have won the title four times. Although both the sides have top quality players, the captaincy decisions lead them to different positions. Giving Rohit three years time will be adequate before expecting India to win the World Cup.
