ABD-six

AB can do anything! Age is just a number for this superhuman from South Africa. Right when RCB thought that they had their game finished against RR, in came ABD. He finished the innings for his team in an unbelievable manner. He scored 55 runs in just 22 balls and his exploits include a hat-trick of sixes that he hit against RR pacer Jaydev Unadkat.

RCB gets off to a great start

Chasing a big score of 178 set by Rajasthan Royals, RCB got off to a great start courtesy of fine patient innings from Padikkal and captain Virat Kohli. Even though both of them scored runs fluently, they lagged behind in strike rate and hence it was almost down to 10 runs per over required from the starting of the 14th over when both these set batsmen departed. The man who came in next was AB de Villiers. Needing 76 in 42 balls, he along with Gurkeerat Mann Singh started building a partnership negating the RR bowlers comfortably well.

ABD hits Jaydev Unadkat for three sixes in a row

From the 16th over onwards ABD started shifting gears slowly and he was in full flow in the penultimate over of the match. Needing a massive 35 runs from just 12 balls, ABD went all out against Jaydev Unadkat who was bowling that over. He started off by smashing Unadkat’s main weapon, ie. the slow ball cutter over the mid-wicket region for a massive six. He followed it up with a six over long-on and a six over the deep backward square to complete a hat-trick of sixes in the high-pressure penultimate over. He also scored a four in that over and in total racked up 25 runs in that over. According to RR captain Steve Smith, it was a well-planned move to bowl Unadkat against ABD from that end, as his slower balls into the wicket may trouble ABD to clear the larger boundary. But as it turned out, no boundary was bigger for this superhuman.

“Obviously it wasn’t big enough for ABD,” said Steve Smith in the post-match presentation.

He finished the game with a massive six against Jofra Archer in the last over and thereby completed his fifty and made a full mockery of the entire RR bowlers. Genius!
