Shahid Afridi, former Pakistani all-rounder who is currently enjoying some time off from cricket due to his knee injury has disclosed the name of the Indian cricketer who has given him the title ‘Boom Boom’.

Afridi is fondly called ‘Boom Boom Afridi’ because of his six-hitting spree as he holds the record of hitting the most number of sixes in ODIs.

Afridi hosted a question-answer session with his fans on Twitter where he invited his fans to #AskLala where he answered the questions asked by his fans on his official Twitter handle.

One of the fans came up with an interesting question and asked the name of the person who gave him the famous title. The 38-year old then replied that it was Ravi Shastri who gave him the nickname.

Boom Boom translates into ‘smash’ and it completely compliments his aggressive style of batting.

Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer is also a famous commentator who is famous for his one-liners and his witty remarks. Shastri is currently the head coach of the Indian cricket team who is in England for the five-matches Test series against England.

Afridi, on the other hand, was supposed to join the squad of Jamaica Tallawahs for the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League, but he decided to opt out of the tournament after sustaining a knee injury.

Shahid Afridi had announced his retirement from International cricket in 2017 but he made a brief comeback after being selected to represent and lead the World XI against West Indies in the 2018 Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge T20 match. Afridi doesn’t play international but he continues to play T20 leagues.

Afridi made his debut in 1996 against Kenya and finished his career with over 350 ODI wickets and he currently sits atop in the list of highest T20I wicket-takers with 98 scalps to his name.
