ENG Playing 11: Having lost in 2017-18 and with the last Ashes series of 2019 having been drawn, England will be keen to regain the upper hand against the arch-rivals Australia. If they succeed, they will overtake Australia in the ICC world test rankings as they are just one point behind them, at the fourth place. With Ben Stokes back in the team, they are well poised to achieve this feat under the redoubtable and in form captain Joe Root. Like Australia, the English narrowly missed making it to the finals of the first test championship and would be rearing to overcome one of the most strong obstacles to their progress in the ongoing 2021-23 test championship.
Team News
Haseeb Hameed and Rory auto pick themselves at the top of the order with some solid performances against India. Dawid Malan impressed in the last tour of Australia and should slot in at no.3. Joe Root should walk in at no.4 followed by Jonny Bairstow and the returning Ben Stokes. Jos Buttler would be keeping the gloves.
The bowlers’ selection is a real headache. Skipper has indicated Jack Leach might start at the Gabba. Ollie Robinson should make his way into the side through the sheer weight of his performances. Jamie Anderson and Stuart Broad are on their last tour of Australia and should start the first game.
