The seventh edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is set to be held at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already release the complete Cricket World Cup Schedule. The upcoming T20WC will take place from October 17 to November 14. Earlier the tournament was supposed to be held in India but due to the Covid-19 situation in the country, the T20 World Cup Date and venue had to be modified. Even though the mega event will be held in the UAE and Oman, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have retained the hosting rights.

The Round 1 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 consists of two groups. The likes of Ireland, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Namibia are placed in the Group A. On the other hand, Group B consists of teams like Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman. After the Qualifiers which are set to be held in Oman and UAE together, the Super 12 that is the next stage of the competition also comprises of Group 1 and Group 2.
The Group 1 features the T20 World Cup defending champions, West Indies, alongside England, South Africa, Australia and the two qualifying teams from Round 1. India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan and two other qualifying teams consist of the Group 2. The top four teams based on their performances and points during Super 12 stage will qualify for the two semi-finals and thereafter, the finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 is scheduled to be held on November 14.

The 2021 edition of T20 World Cup will take place at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. The BCCI was in charge of deciding the schedule and played a significant role in the allocation of games for the mega event. Incidentally, according to relevant sources, it has been learnt that the decision to host T20 World Cup 2021 matches in Oman was taken by the BCCI during a meeting in Delhi. The T20 World Cup 2021 will be held in the UAE just after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Phase 2. Therefore, the pitches could have slowed down until the start of the mega event.
The Indian team captained by MS Dhoni were adjudged the winner of the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup hosted by South Africa in 2007. India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in a nail-biting finale to win the maiden World T20 title. However, Pakistan avenged their final loss by winning the 2009 edition of the tournament. During the 2010 ICC T20 World Cup, England won their first-ever world title by defeating Australia in the finals.

The next T20 World Cup will be held in 2022 and the hosting rights for that event are already with Australia. Incidentally, there was due to be a preceding 2020 T20 World Cup to take place in Australia from 18 October to 15 November 2020, however, in July 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) was forced to postpone the mega event in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ICC decided that the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup will go on as per the original schedule and reassigned the deferred 2020 edition to Australia in 2022.
The first-ever WT20 which is formerly called the ICC T20 World Cup took place in 2007. However, it was on 17 February, 2005 when the first-ever official Twenty20 international match was played between New Zealand and Australia. The International Cricket Council (ICC) first took the big decision that every two years an ICC T20 World Cup will be held except in the event of the 50-overs World Cup being scheduled in the same year. India beat Pakistan in 2007 to be crowned as the inaugural winner of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The second edition of the tournament was held in England where Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka to win the title.

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri will be the head coach of the Indian cricket team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. This will also be Shastri’s last assignment as head coach of the national side and he will want to finish on a high. Under his coaching and guidance, India went to register back-to-back Test series wins in Australia and also did well recently in England. In his tenure, Team India also won T20I series in South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka. Alongside Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun is the bowling coach, Vikram Rathour is the batting coach while R Sridhar is the fielding coach of the national team.
A total of six matches of the tournament in the Round 1 will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Al Amerat, Oman. UAE has a total of three main venues namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and that is where the majority of the matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will be contested. The Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host as many as 15 matches in the competition including the first semi-final scheduled on 10 November. The Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah will get to play hosts in a total of 11 exciting fixtures this upcoming season. 13 matches of the World T20 will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai which includes the grand finale of the event on 14 November.
