Martin Guptill AUS vs NZ: In a crucial news update, New Zealand’s senior opening batsman Martin Guptill unfortunately misses out for their big game of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against defending champions Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. New Zealand will be aiming to improve their white-ball record in Australia as they have not won a single limited-overs game since 2011 against the defending champions.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson stated that Martin Guptill is not playing this opening match against Australia. Incidentally, this is the seventh edition of the ICC T20 World Cup for Guptill, but his individual form has not been that impressive over the last few months in the shorter format of the game. The Kiwi have hence decided to back explosive opener Finn Allen who can provide an impactful performance with the bat especially in the first six overs of the powerplay. Guptill has composed a total of 3531 runs from as many as 122 T20I matches at a strike-rate of 135.7 that includes 20 fifties and 2 centuries.
“Would’ve bowled as well for the same reason. Guys have been working hard and training. No changing the past but for us it’s about playing for what’s important for our game. Really commit to our plans,” said New Zealand captain Kane Williamson at the toss.
