The antics of Virat Kohli in the second Test have garnered huge media attention. Several former greats have voiced their opinion on Indian captain’s wicket celebrations and exchanges with Aussie skipper Tim Paine. Australian great and former Captain Allan Border sees it as something the sport needs at the moment.

Kohli’s celebrations over the top but good in a way

It was on the latest episode of Fox Cricket podcast The Follow-on, the Australian legend said, “I have not seen a team’s captain “carry on” so much at the fall of wickets. There are not many characters in our game at the moment. The professional era has sort of beaten that out to a certain degree.”

It’s good to see guys with that passion, drive and a bit of character. It’s really over the top but it’s good in a way. You can see some passion about what he’s trying to do,” added World Cup-winning captain Allan Border.

Kohli’s keen ON winNING away and really deserve no. 1 ranking

When asked what makes Kohli such a fiery character on the field but not so when he is out with the bat, Border said it could be the desire to win a series overseas or motivation by a “quiet” squad.

“He’s so keen to win away from home and really deserve that number one ranking. To drive the team to be number one, which he’s achieved, but to win away from home is one of those important things you notice as a captain. I think he’s feeling that pinch,” said Border.

Kohli’s probably the only one that has the character to get really animated. The rest seem a quiet bunch and maybe Kohli feels as skipper he needs to lead from the front and really show some passion and drive.”
