Rohit Sharma BAN vs IND: In an important news update, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is not available for selection in the third and final ODI encounter against Bangladesh scheduled to be hosted at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Team India have already lost their second consecutive ODI series in Bangladesh after their poor defeat in 2015 as the Men in Blue conceded a disappointing 5-run loss against the home side in the 2nd ODI. Bangladesh now have a golden chance to whitewash India as the hosts have an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma copped up a massive blow on his left thumb while attempting a catch in just the second over of the previous game in Mirpur. The Indian skipper was forced to leave the field immediately and was taken to the hospital for further scans. During the second innings, India found themselves in a massive trouble having been reduced to 207 for 7 while chasing 272 runs, however, despite supporting a big taping on his thumb, Rohit showed immense courage and came out to bat. He smashed a sensational unbeaten knock of 51 runs off only 28 balls that included as many as 5 sixes but eventually failed to take his team over the line.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now stated that Rohit Sharma has already flown back to Mumbai where he will be consulting a specialist and will not be available for the final ODI game against Bangladesh on Saturday. In his absence, KL Rahul will captain the national team while it remains to be seen whether Rohit will be available for the two-match Test series in Bangladesh or not.

“The BCCI Medical Team assessed him and he underwent scans at a local hospital in Dhaka. He has flown to Mumbai for specialist consultation and will miss the final ODI. A call on his availability for the upcoming Test series will be taken later,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated in a press release.
