BCCI official gives update on Asia Cup 2020

One of the biggest tournaments in the limited overs international cricket is the Asia cup where the Asian giants fight it out to become the champions of the Asian continent in cricket. The Asia cup which was invented in 1984 has been happening ever since and the Asian teams consider it as a prestigious tournament.

The tournament expanded to a greater extent when the Asian cricket council made efforts to include associate member nations along with the reputed teams in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. India has won the tournament most number times and they are the current defending champions as well.

Cricket boards in huge crisis

It is a known fact that all the cricket events have been cancelled due to the corona pandemic and that includes not only the current affairs but future tour programs as well.

The impact of this covid-19 has been unimaginable throughout the world and even the richest of the cricket boards might face a huge crisis during this stage.

Asia cup is all but over

The 15th edition of the Asia cup which was supposed to take part in September this year in a 20 over format is all but over as per latest reports. The Asia cup is a 50 over format in general but they had decided to conduct the tournament in a 20 over format due to the WT20 which also happens to be in this year so that it would have helped the teams in their preparation for the all important WT20.

Though it doesn’t seem right to be talking about cricket schedules as of now, we can safely assume that Asia Cup isn’t a possibility. The extent of the impact of the COVID-19 is unknown as of now. The job losses across sectors and the impact on the economy is also unknown.
