The England all-rounder Ben Stokes sustained an injury in the IPL 2021 and was out for at least 8 weeks from competitive cricket. Now, it has been confirmed that he will miss the crucial test series against New Zealand next month.
The 2 test match series between England and New Zealand is set to begin from June 2 at Lord’s. The all-rounder Ben Stokes has been a terrific player for the England team across all the formats. He became an important member of the test side, where he scored the century and helped the England team to win the 3rd test of the Ashes 2019. It has been confirmed that by the head coach of the England national team that all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the test series against New Zealand due to the finger injury.
The head coach Silverwood said that, “Stokes is making excellent progress. If he continues to improve without any impact on his rehabilitation, we could see him return next month for Durham in the Vitality Blast competition.”
The Vitality Blast is the T20 franchise competition organized every year and this season begin from June 9.
“It’ll be a slow return. We’re potentially looking at the T20 Blast and then a gradual build back into international cricket for him. He has started bowling again and he’s not far off hitting a few balls as well. He’s progressing nicely and on course for where we expected him to be,” Silverwood concluded.
After playing the test series against New Zealand in June, the England team will play a limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in later part of June. Then, Pakistan will arrive in July to play limited-overs series. In August, the Indian team will play 5-test match series against England. It will be interesting to see when all-format players Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer can return for the England team.
