Share

Best opener in the World – It’s fair to say that opening the batting is the most difficult thing to do in the game of cricket. Openers have to surpass various challenges to provide their team with a decent start. While some would argue that it’s the easiest job to do as they can take advantage of field restrictions but to see off the new ball against some relentless bowling attacks is not everyone’s bread and butter.

Best opener in the world

Let’s look at the best opening batsmen in the world

1. Rohit Sharma

India’s limited over skipper Rohit Sharma is the best opener in the world. Being trolled for his weight and poor performances in the early part of his career, his turnaround in cricket has been remarkable. Ever since he started to open the innings for his team in 2013, he has completely evolved as a batter. Years after opening in white-ball cricket, he opened in the red-ball format for the first time in 2019 and had huge success in the longest format of the game at the top. He has so far played 43 Tests, 227 ODIs and 119 T20Is, scoring 3047, 9205, 3197 runs respectively.

3. Shai Hope

West Indian opener Shai Hope sits third on our list of best openers in the world. When we talk about Caribbean players, aggressive batting is what comes to our mind but it’s different in the case of Shai Hope. The right-hander whenever comes to bat looks very compact and is not an easy wicket to take. Hope mostly plays a role of an anchor. The right-hander mostly opens in ODI while playing as a middle-order batter in Tests and T20Is. Overall in 137 international matches, he has scored 5624 runs.
