The recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India won 2-1, is a series to remember. It had everything: heroes standing up, apprentices turning master, boys becoming men, underdog stories, and many more. While it looks like yesterday’s story, the talks about the series are still up.

Australia pacer and number one Test bowler, Pat Cummins opened up about bowling to Cheteshwar Pujara and even called him a ‘brick wall’ while speaking to ESPN Cricinfo. Cummins also said that Cheteshwar Pujara was his prime target once India skipper Virat Kohli returned home on paternity leave.

Pujara turned out to be the deciding factor

Cummins accepted Pujara turned out to be the deciding factor with his rock-solid performances with the bat and was crucial in India’s historic win.

My initial thought was that he (Pujara) was the brick wall, so once we opened up his end, I thought that still made all three results in the game possible, winning, losing, or a draw. But it was satisfying too: before the series, once we knew Virat (Kohli) was going to miss the last three Tests, Pujara was the big wicket for me,” Cummins told ESPN Cricinfo.

It’s ‘incredibly rare’ that a batsman gets hit on his body without trying something

Aussie pacer also spoke about Pujara’s pain tolerance in the final Test at The Gabba. In the final Test, Cheteshwar Pujara was hit a number of times on his body by the Australian bowlers. Cummins said it’s ‘incredibly rare’ that a batsman gets hit on his body without trying something.

“…it’s incredibly rare that someone gets hit on his body and wears so many bruises without trying something. You hope if you keep doing that, maybe they’re going to try to put their gloves up and you’re going to get a catch that way, but he really stuck to his processes,” Cummins added further.
