Nothing is going right for the Sri Lankan team in the Test series against England. The hosts have already lost the Test series and now their skipper Dinesh Chandimal has been officially declared out of the third Test and he will be replaced by Danushka Gunathilaka.

Chandimal yet to recover from injury

The news of Chandimal’s absence was announced by the Sri Lankan cricket board through a press release. It said that Dinesh Chandimal, who missed the 2nd test due to an injury will not take part in the 3rd Test match vs England, as he is still recovering from the injury.

The Sri Lankan had sustained a grade-one tear which is not yet healed completely and hence he will miss the third Test as well.

Chandimal gave a update about his injury while speaking with an online cricket portal. He said that he did a fitness test on Monday, and he noted that afterwards there were still symptoms of this injury. He also revealed that the physio has said that it will take about another week for it to be 100%.

Danushka Gunathilaka to replace the injured captain

As a cover for the skipper, Sri Lanka team management had roped in uncapped Charith Asalanka in the second Test. However, the team has now opted for Danushka Gunathilaka who has featured in five Tests so far. Gunathilaka had breached the curfew in the middle of a Test in his last Test outing.

In his five Tests so far, he has scored 259 runs and has an average of 25.90.

Third Test to start from November 23

The third Test between the two teams will be played from November 23rd. The visitors have already pocketed the series by winning the first two Tests. In the absence of Chandimal, Suranga Lakmal will most probably lead the home team.
