Chennai Super Kings clashed with Delhi Capitals here in the Dubai International Cricket stadium in what was an important game for both sides. Both of them were on 2 points and a win for either side would have taken them to the top of the table. In the end it was Delhi Capitals who won and maintained a 100% record so far by winning both of their games in this campaign.
Mankad is an unpopular method of dismissal which was made popular by Ravi Ashwin last year IPL when he dislodged the bails in the bowlers end by stopping in his run up to catch Jos Buttler out of the crease. Even in the build up to the start of the season, there was an interview in which Ricky Ponting said he would advice Ravi Ashwin not to mankad anyone and Ravi Ashwin invited him to his YouTube channel to discuss about it.
In this match number 7 of IPL 2020 between DC and CSK, even though Ravi Ashwin was not in the playing eleven, there was an attempt to tease Shikhar Dhawan by Deepak Chahar. While everyone of the players and umpires were ready for the action to begin , the Chennai Super Kings new ball bowler cheekily pulled out of his run up and looked at Shikhar Dhawan who was backing up at the non-striker’s end. Sensing the danger, Shikhar Dhawan quickly turned back and kept his bat inside his crease quickly while Deepak Chahar walked back with a wry smile on his face.
This is not the first time that Shikhar Dhawan has been at the receiving end of a Mankad scare. In fact it was the same bowler Deepak Chahar who did this previously to the Indian left handed opener last year in a game but then again even in that there was no intention to take the bails off by the bowler.
It was all smiles between the two even last year just as it was in yesterday’s game. Shikhar Dhawan has also been warned by Krunal Pandya while backing up last year and it’s fair to be said that the senior batsman has to be careful with his backing up.
