How time flies; a week before Shikhar Dhawan was the most hated person on the line-up, and now when the format changed, people started adoring his ability to play the game. #INDvsHK #AsiaCup2018— ?????? ????? (@GautamSodhi1) September 18, 2018

Shikhar Dhawan may have had a poor run in the Test series against England but by slamming a terrific hundred against Hong Kong he has proved his worth in the limited overs format. And former India cricketer Ajit Agarkar feels that Shikhar Dhawan along with Rohit Sharma is key to India’s success in ODIs.
Ajit Agarkar was speaking with an online cricket portal when he analysed Dhawan’s innings against Hong Kong. Agarkar said that with this knock the opener has once again showed why is he is important to the side.
The former India bowler noted that at times the Hong Kong bowling felt like a net session but at the same time he stated that even then you have to go and cash in which is what Dhawan did by slamming a hundred.

Agarkar also mentioned that Rohit Sharma looked good and he got a good start. But then he threw it away while the left-hand batsman didn’t and scored a big knock.
According to Agarkar one among Rohit and Dhawan scoring big usually puts India in a driver seat. He added that because of the way the middle order is at the moment it is important for the top-order batsmen to consistently fire.
Agarkar admitted that there is very little to talk about the Hong Kong bowling attack and it is expected from batsmen to score runs against them. But he also pointed out that it is one thing expecting and actually going out and doing it.

He said that Dhawan cashed on the width offered outside off-stump by playing a lot of cut shots . The right-arm bowler mentioned that getting hundreds is a good habit and Dhawan batted fluently although he took his time early on.
Agarkar noted that the opener increased his strike rate reaching the hundred which is also a good ability to have.
In their next game in Asia Cup, India will take on Pakistan on September 19.
Dhawan’s knock received applause from Twitter too.
