After the first Day was washed out due to rain, the second Day’s play of the third and ongoing Test match between England and South Africa was canceled due to the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. The authorities from both sides, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) were in discussions about whether to resume the Test on Day three or cancel the whole fixture. Finally, considering the convenience and further schedules of the sides, the decision has been announced by the officials.
The third Test between England and South Africa is set to resume on Saturday (September 10), to pay tribute to the Queen. Although, the play will not be extended deeming the two unplayed days, as the South African camp is set to depart from the United Kingdom (UK), on Tuesday (September 13). South Africa have a white-ball series scheduled against India, away from home.
The game will start on Day 3 of the Test match and as England won the toss earlier, they will bowl first at the Kia Oval in London.
The conversations with the English government, the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and the ECB and CSA, led to a conclusion of continuing the Test match. Also, the first T20I between England women and India women will go ahead as planned on Saturday evening. Cricketers and coaching staffs to pay tributes to the Queen

As quoted by the ECB, before each match, a minute’s silence will be observed followed by the national anthem, which will be now read as ‘God Save the King’, as King Charles III takes over the crown. All the players and coaching staff will wear black armbands. Branded inventory around the stadiums will be replaced with messaging paying cricket’s tributes to the Queen.
The ECB released a statement regarding the matter, which read, “Cricket will resume on Saturday to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and honour her remarkable life and service.”

Furthermore, the CSA chief executive Pholetsi Moseki, in an official statement said, “CSA is in full support of the ECB’s decision to go ahead with the third Test match between England and South Africa following the UK’s day of mourning. After consultation with the Proteas’ team management and given the schedule ahead, it was clear that it would not be in the players’ interests to extend the Test and reduce the few days the players have with their families before another long tour.”
