English Legend Kevin Pietersen Picks Greatest Captain

Captaincy is one of the most vital aspects of the beautiful game of cricket. The game has already produced some great captains like Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Stephen Fleming, Alastair Cook, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Ricky Ponting etc.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has made his choice when it comes to the greatest captain the game has ever produced. According to Pietersen the greatest captain is none other than the former Indian and current CSK skipper MS Dhoni.

“Difficult to go against him”: Kevin Pietersen

Showering praise on MS Dhoni, the former English skipper said;

“It will be very difficult just with the weight of expectation to go against MS Dhoni because of what everybody expects from him, how he has to live his life and what he has been through captaining India and then captaining the CSK,”

Under MS Dhoni, India has had immense success. They won the Asia Cup multiple times, World T20 in 2007, the ICC World Cup 2011, he took India to the pole position in Test rankings along with the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy triumph.

He is India’s second most successful captain in Test cricket with 27 wins from 60 matches. His record was recently surpassed by Virat Kohli. Apart from international success, MS Dhoni has lead Chennai Super Kings to 3 IPL and 2 now-defunct Champions League T20 triumph.

Dhoni and Pietersen have played together in the past

Both MS Dhoni and Kevin Pietersen have played with each other in the past. In the year 2016, MS Dhoni captained Rising Pune Supergiant where Kevin Pietersen was a premier member of the squad.

However, Pietersen’s tournament was cut short due to a hamstring injury due to which Rising Pune Supergiant had to pay the price and they finished seventh on the points table.

What’s next for MS Dhoni?

With IPL still under hot waters, MS Dhoni who was supposed to lead Chennai Super Kings is nowhere near to return to the cricket field. Only time will tell whether MS Dhoni once again take the field or not.
