Indian cricket is receiving criticism from all sides for their poor performance in the ongoing Test series against England. This time, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh registered his displeasure while speaking with a news channel and was specifically disappointed with Hardik Pandya who failed to perform in both Tests.
Harbhajan expressed his dissent in stern language. He said that the tag of all-rounder should be removed from Hardik Pandya as he is not performing these duties for the team. The off-spinner pointed out that Pandya hasn’t scored enough runs with the bat and it seems like Virat Kohli doesn’t have faith in his bowling as well.
Harbhajan claims that as Pandya isn’t delivering what is expected from him, he shouldn’t be labeled as an all-rounder. At the same time, the ‘Turbanator’ refused to believe Pandya as the replacement for Kapil Dev. He said that Pandya cannot become the next Kapil Dev overnight.
Harbhajan who has claimed more than 400 Test wickets compared Pandya with England’s all-rounders to prove his point. He stated that Sam Curran performed the role of an all-rounder in the first Test and Chris Woakes did the job in the second Test at Lord’s. He said the same is expected from Pandya as well, but so far the Indian all-rounder has failed to make an impact.
Harbhajan also warned about the future as he believed that if Pandya doesn’t bowl in these conditions then it will become difficult for him in the future and also for the team.
The numbers do support Harbhajan’s claims. In the four innings so far in this series, Pandya has scored only 90 runs and he hasn’t contributed significantly in any innings although there was some promise seen in his batting in the second innings in the first Test.
In the bowling department too Pandya has fared poorly. The right-arm medium pacer has picked only three wickets and it seems that Kohli isn’t much excitement to bowl him regularly.
