Batting coach

The Virat Kohli’s, the Rohit Sharma’s, the Jasprit Bumrah’s etc are the benchmark for the next generation of budding cricketers in India. However, the new breed which comprises KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer etc are as promising and have the hunger to succeed.

India’s batting coach Vikram Rathor is really fond of one of the new gen’s and he’s none other than India’s newest number four Shreyas Iyer.

Vikram Rathour believes Iyer is here to stay

The Indian team has been doing wonders in recent times and apart from the big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the influence of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer has made even more impact and the future definitely looks bright.

Showering praise on Shreyas Iyer, the batting coach said,

“The more opportunities that these guys get, they are showing that they are capable. They are showing that they are match-winners on their day. That will help the team, of course, but it will also help their confidence,” Rathour said speaking to reporters on the eve of the third T20I.

He further added,

“Having seen KL (Rahul) and Shreyas as young cricketers coming through, in my mind, I have absolutely no doubt that they are match-winners. They are getting their opportunities now and they are showing the world what they are capable of, that is great to see,”

As per Rathour, Iyer’s biggest strength is his positive frame of mind which helps to play in tense situations. “Apart from having those (batting) skills, I think the mind set is amazing. He (Iyer) believes he is a big player, and he is, without any doubt. He genuinely believes that he is a match-winner and he is here to stay. And that mindset I think helps him, that is the biggest advantage he has,” he said.

He also acknowledged India’s bench strength

The fabulous home season along with a bright start to the New Zealand tour, India has not left any stone unturned. One of the major reasons for this is the bench strength we have.

“A-tour helps a lot. In case of any injuries, if you are looking for any replacements, we know players are here, just a city away. They can immediately come in and they are already acclimatized to the conditions. I think that’s a great idea and that’s working really well for our team,” said Rathour while praising the bench strength.

India all set to take the series in Hamilton itself

After registering comfortable victories in the first two games of the series played in Auckland, the Indian team is all set to take an unassailable lead by winning the third fixture which will be played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton.
