Rath says his team generally doesn’t have great starts

Hong Kong lost their first match in Asia Cup to Pakistan in which they were completely outplayed by the opposition.

Hong Kong was routed for 116 runs by Pakistani bowlers and then they achieved the target in just 24 overs to complete a massive win.

When asked about this performance, Rath said that they don’t have the greatest starts to tournaments.  He reminded everyone of the past tournaments and said that if you look at their history, in the Asia Cup qualifiers they lost the first game to Malaysia. In the T20 World Cup qualifiers, they lost to Jersey in their first game.

At the same time he was critical of his team’s performance in the series opener. He stated that there’s no excuse with the way they batted. He admitted that three people getting to double-figures is not enough, especially none of them converting, including himself.

He also noted that getting starts is great but you’ve to kick on.  And he added that it is certainly a lesson his team will look to rectify in the next game against India.

Rath excited to play against India

Talking about their match against India, Rath said that it is a fantastic experience to see how a top team operates. Especially since they  haven’t played that much against the top five sides essentially. It’s good to see how they go about their things and  he is hopeful that his boys will pick up some lessons from them.
