The International Cricket Council nominated various players for the ICC Player of the Month award of March. The Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Williams have been nominated for the prestigious award. Indian women spinner Rajeshwari Gaykawad, women batsmen Punam Raut, South Africa opener Lizelle Lee have been nominated in the women’s category. In the last month, Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded as the Men’s player of the month for his excellent performances in the test series against England.
The Indian Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a great comeback in the home series against England and picked 6 wickets in the 3-match series. His wicket-taking ability in the powerplay overs came in handy in the 3rd ODI where he picked the important wickets of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. The Indian team won the ODI series 2-1. While Rashid Khan was impressive in the series against Zimbabwe despite fitness issues and took 11 test wickets and 6 T20I wickets at an impressive average. The Afghanistan team won the T20I series 3-0. The all-rounder of Zimbabwe Sean Williams scored 264 runs at an average of 132, which included 2 centuries. The test series was tied 1-1 between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.
Likewise, 3 nominations have been done in the women’s category. The South Africa women’s team opener Lizelle Lee was quite consistent in the series against India. She scored 288 ODI runs and 90 T20I runs. The Indian batter Punam Raut scored 263 runs., while Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked 8 ODI wickets and 4 T20I wickets. The South Africa team won the ODI series 4-1 and the T20I series 2-1.
