Bangladesh registered their third win in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 by defeating Afghanistan with ease. But the team is still haunted by injury concerns to their key players and now injury to Mahmudullah has added to their woes. The Bangladesh batsman suffered an injury during the Afghanistan game and there are doubts over his recovery.
Instead he was taken to hospital for further scans which revealed the severity of his injury.
Bangladesh Physio Thihan Chandramohan made it clear on Tuesday that Mahmudullah has sustained a low grade calf injury. He explained that they will monitor his progress over the next few days with regards to his availability for the next World Cup match.
Bangladesh's next game in the World Cup is against India on July 02nd. The team has won three matches so far from their seven games in the World Cup and has only two more games left. Although extremely difficult, Bangladesh still has chances of making it to the semi-finals and hence the match against India is a crucial game for them. And the absence of a key batsman like Mahmudullah will be a bug blow for the team.
The right-hand batsman has experience of 181 ODIs and has scored close to 4000 runs. In the World Cup, he is batting well and has got starts in all the innings. He scored a crucial knock of 46 not out against South Africa and slammed a hundred against Australia.
Apart from Mahmudullah, Bangladesh is having other injury concerns too. Shakib Al Hasan had hamstring issues while Mushfiqur Rahim had injured his finger. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza was seen having fitness issues in some games too.
