IND vs ENG

Even after securing a massive 227-run victory in the opening India vs England Test match in Chennai and taking a 1-0 lead in the four-match Test series, England have been behind the eight-ball so far in this ongoing second Test match. Indian captain Virat Kohli won a crucial toss on a rank turner surface after which opener Rohit Sharma’s amazing knock of 161 runs and fifties from Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant helped India post a challenging first innings total of 329 runs.

On a pretty helpful surface, the Indian spin bowling duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and debutant Axar Patel have bowled wonderfully to put the visitors completely on the backfoot. Axar picked up the prized scalp of Joe Root who was coming into this game after scoring three back-to-back centuries in the last three Tests in Asia.

IND vs ENG: Ravi Ashwin castles Ben Stokes with a ripper

With the scorecard reading 39 for 4 and skipper Root back in the hut, the onus was on all-rounder Ben Stokes to bail England out of trouble, however, it was looking like a monumental task against a quality Indian bowling attack. Eventually, India’s premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin then bowled a beautiful delivery to shatter Stokes’ stumps to pick his third wicket of the innings and leave England in absolute tatters at 52 for 5. Stokes who played a superb innings of 82 runs in the first innings of the first Test match in Chennai, could only score 18 runs in this innings.

IND vs ENG: India looking good to level the series

It will be very much right to say that the Virat Kohli-led Indian team has taken a commanding position in this second Test match against England. With England still trailing by a massive total of 262 runs, the Indian bowlers will be hoping to quickly wrap up the England innings and then possibly bat again and post a mammoth fourth innings target. Once again looking at the nature of the Chennai track, this Test match is expected to move at a brisk pace.
