IND vs NZ, WTC Final

IND vs NZ, WTC Final: Whenever the rain gods have stayed, the inaugural India vs New Zealand ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final has witnessed a riveting contest between the bat and ball. India’s pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma bowled amazingly to help their team make a brilliant comeback in the ultimate Test match. However, with two crucial wickets at the end, New Zealand are well on top to dictate terms for a possible result.

New Zealand Take First Innings lead despite Shami four-fer

New Zealand had a horrendous first session on Day 5 as play started late due to rain. Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma bowled disciplined lengths to put the opposition batsmen under serious pressure. New Zealand lost three big wickets during the first session in the form of Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls and BJ Watling. However, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson kept on battling remarkably well at the other end and compiled important partnerships with the lower-order to help his team take a lead of 32 runs.

Williamson played a really gutsy knock of 49 runs off 177 deliveries as New Zealand got bowled out for 249. Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson also came up with some crucial contributions having scored 30 and 21 runs respectively. For India, Shami finished with four wickets while Ishant and Ashwin scalped three and two wickets respectively.

IND vs NZ, WTC Final

In their second innings with the bat, Indian opener, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked pretty much assured in their defence as compared to the first innings of the Test match. However, New Zealand’s most experienced pacer Tim Southee was also spot on with his lengths right from the start. Southee bowled a lovely in-swinger to first dismiss Gill and then also got the big wicket of Rohit Sharma towards the day end. At stumps on Day 5, India were placed at 64 for 2 with Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara unbeaten at the crease.
