Dinesh Karthik IND vs SL: Team India is now ready to lock horns with Sri Lanka in a must-win Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 6 September, 2022 (Tuesday). The Men in Blue will surely be looking forward to make a strong comeback with an improved performance after their disappointing 5-wicket defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game of the Super 4 stage. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now have to win both of their remaining games against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in order to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 finals.
After an unfortunate setback in the form of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja getting ruled out of the remainder of the competition, India were forced to make as many as three changes to their playing combination in a big game against Pakistan on Sunday. In order to counter the Pakistani spinners, the team management preferred to back left-handed wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant ahead of Dinesh Karthik in the playing XI. The Indian team also included Deepak Hooda in the side, but his services with the ball were not used even after both Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya conceded plenty of runs. Therefore, even though, Hooda contributed with a cameo of 16 runs towards the end, Team India might consider playing Karthik against Sri Lanka on Tuesday as he has done incredibly well in the recent while at the finisher’s role.
“There’s no such a thing as first choice playing XI for every single condition. That will vary. On that day against Pakistan, we felt Dinesh was the right choice for us,” said India’s head coach Rahul Dravid.
