Shikhar Dhawan to play IND vs WI 3rd ODI: After clinching the series in a remarkable style, India will be locking horns with West Indies in the third and final ODI game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 11 February, 2022. India went on to defeat the Windies team by 44 runs in the second ODI and the hosts have now taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series.
During the post-match presentation on Wednesday, India’s captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan is absolutely fit and will return to the playing 11 for the third ODI against West Indies. Before the start of the ODI series against the Windies team, Shikhar had tested positive for COVID-19 alongside the duo of Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both Dhawan and Iyer have now recovered and joined the rest of the India ODI squad, making themselves available for selection.
“Shikhar should be back for the next game. We don’t mind losing a few games while trying out a few things. Because it is important to look at the long-term goals. We will see what works out well for the team combination for the final ODI,” said Rohit Sharma after the 2nd ODI between India and the West Indies.
With the series sealed in their favour, hosts India are likely to make a number of changes in their playing 11 for the final ODI match against West Indies. Rishabh Pant might be rested with Dhawan returning to the side while KL Rahul will then take over the wicket-keeping duties. India is also expected to play chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav in place of Washington Sundar while Deepak Chahar should replace Mohammed Siraj in the India playing XI.
