Dinesh Karthik IND vs ZIM: In a massive breaking news development, India are not playing their senior wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik in this important match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against Zimbabwe at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. The Indian team went on to register an incredible 5-run victory against Bangladesh during their last game of the tournament and another win in this match will help the Men in Blue to finish at the top position in Group 2.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India captain Rohit Sharma gave the big news that Dinesh Karthik is not part of the playing XI for this crucial encounter against Zimbabwe and Rishabh Pant will don the wicket-keeping duties. Rohit noted that the team management wanted to give some game time to Pant who has remained out of consideration so far in this competition. On the other hand, Karthik failed to contribute much with the bat especially during the last two games against Bangladesh and South Africa. More importantly, Dinesh has also not been at his best with the gloves as he has dropped a few chances behind the wickets as well. Rishabh last played for India during the final T20I match against South Africa at home.
“We will bat. It’s the preference of the team to bat first, nothing to do with the pitch. We just want to bat first and give a chance to our bowlers to defend. One change, Rishabh Pant plays instead of DK, he is the only guy who hasn’t played a single game on this tour including the warm-up games, we wanted to give him a game. Nothing changes, we need to do well as a team,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
